The latest post in our series highlighting LAF’s 2015 Justice is Served sponsors is a double-whammy, featuring one of our most generous corporate partners, as well as the inaugural winners of the LAF Young Professionals Board Power Couple Award.
DLA Piper has long been a steadfast supporter of LAF, and has enthusiastically expanded its participation with LAF in the past five years since the YPB formed. DLA Piper has had at least one representative on the YPB since its first meeting in 2009, and in fact was one of the leading firms that helped to build the Board.
Katie Jahnke Dale, an associate in the real estate group at DLA Piper, focuses her practice on land use and development. As a member of the YPB, Katie serves as the Co-Chair of the Outreach Committee, and is a dynamic leader of initiatives to raise awareness for LAF with new audiences, including working with the pro bono leaders in her firm to coordinate a CLE presentation at the end of April with the Association of Corporate Counsel.
Katie is one half of what the LAF External Relations Department likes to call the YPB Dynamic Duo. Her husband, Eric Dale, is also a member and no less of a dynamo – currently a Manager of the OTC Derivatives department at the National Futures Association, where he conducts regulatory examinations of investment banks, Eric is also pursuing a Masters of Business Administration at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Together, Katie and Eric have accomplished spectacular feats on behalf of LAF. They bring their friends to YPB events, help plan great programs to raise visibility for the agency, and they recently served as members of the 2014 #GivingTuesday Virtual Gala Host Committee that put up a challenge grant to help LAF reach at least 125 donors on the big annual giving day.
“I serve on the YPB because it is important to support the critical civil legal services that LAF attorneys provide every day to those in our community who cannot afford them – services that can and frequently do mean the difference between homelessness or having a roof over your head or feeding your children or having them go without,” Katie recently told us.
Eric chimed in as well – “As many organizations do, the YPB allows me to network with like-minded young professionals who care about local issues. However, what makes LAF unique is the opportunity to see its work first hand and know that I am directly contributing to its mission. My best memories of serving on the YPB are from speaking with and hearing the inspiring stories of people who have been helped by LAF’s services.”
We are grateful to DLA Piper for the generous support they provide to LAF, including the support they provide to Katie as a member of the YPB. And we are deeply grateful to the Dales for being such enthusiastic, committed and just plain fun members of the YPB. Thank you!
Justice is Served 2015 will be held on April 10 at The Tortoise Club, featuring live entertainment from John Wade Jazz and a silent auction. Tickets for the evening are $150 and can be purchased here. All proceeds from the evening benefit LAF in its mission to provide free legal services to people living in poverty across the Chicagoland area. Learn more about LAF at http://www.lafchicago.org.
When asked for a photo from their recent European vacation, Katie told us “I couldn’t find a Belgium picture handy that wasn’t a selfie or us holding beers, so you’re getting Barcelona!” We’ll take it!
